About Us

The Discovery Chess Club was founded in 2007. Our club’s 40 students represent a range of skill levels, from beginners to seasoned competitors. We provide children with professional chess coaching. We are doing an exemplary job in the field of chess coaching and catering to a large number of students under the roof. We are consistently maintaining a great reputation and are actively producing chess champions and striving to keep the chess community strong and happy!. We are a non profit academy with a goal to make an individual think chess as a life long passion . Learning to Love chess where we in still life long love for chess. We are the only academy in NE Ohio that Offers over the board GM and FM training for a very  affordable amount.

Coach Kala is from Malaysia. She played chess in her school team for Districts and Statewide tournaments. Coach Kala represented her school team for Districts and Statewide tournaments  She holds a few state and district titles. She played for the Finance association in the National level during her career in the finance industry . She furthered her studies in The USA and what became a hobby of teaching small children developed into a club today. Her  students have won many tournaments locally, state and National level. Her expertise lay at introducing the game to children .

  • A volunteer at the women's club for the United States Chess Federation
  • An office at the Canton Scholastic Chess League
  • She is also a club Tournament Director and works as a TD in many tournaments

GM Alexander Shabalov’s Achievements:

  • 4 Times US Champion
  • 2015 Hall of Fame Inductee
  • Captain of World Champion US Senior Team

Elshan Moradiabadi became a Grandmaster in 2005.He has started teaching chess in 2009 and has been a full-time coach since 2016 while continuing to be a competitive player. Starting last year, 2019, Elshan has been selected as the coach of the US Team at the World Team Chess Championship in Kazakhstan. Further, he coached at the Pan American Youth Championships in Ecuador and World Youth in India.

  • As a player, he tied for first at the US Masters and won the prestigious Rilton Cup in 2020
  • He also qualified for the 2020 US Championship by winning a spot in the US open 2019.

WGM Sabina – Francesca Foişor is a Romanian-American chess player. She has won numerous national titles in her age category in both Romanian and European championships in her age category. She was awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster in 2007. Aside from playing chess professionally, Sabina has been coaching players of all levels for the past seven years. In 2019, she was one of USCF’s selected coaches for the Pan-American Youth Championships as well as the World Youth Championships.

  • Sabina has been proudly representing the USA's Women Chess Olympic Team at five consecutive Olympiads (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016,2018)
  • four Women's World Team Championships (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019)
  • Sabina has qualified three times for the Women’s World Chess Championship
  • Her biggest achievement is winning the US Women’s Championship in 2017

Anton Glocar is a “Class A” USCF rated player. Starting competitive play at the age of six, he quickly began to achieve consistent results in local and state tournaments. Anton has taught chess for several years, beginning as an assistant coach at the National Inventors Hall of Fame Middle School / STEM while attending the STEM High School. More recently, he has coached at summer camps, and is currently an assistant coach for the Discovery Chess learning Center chess team.

  • Anton has won four Ohio Scholastic State Chess Championships
  • As well as achieving a co-championship in a fifth state tournament

Aryan is a national expect from Columbus, Ohio. Being only 17 years old, Aryan is one of the strongest players for his age group and has competed in many big name tournaments. In 2017, Aryan won the State of Ohio g45 Championship, being the youngest player to do so.

  • In 2020, he won the State of Ohio 10th Grade Championship
  • He has had 3 years of coaching under his belt, and has coached straight beginnings up to several class B and C players
